Product Change Details

Note

The information below is current at the time this report was published. There is a possibility the final release may contain additional changes. These will be described in the associated release report.

Electoral Boundaries Update

Geoscape will be updating both the State and Commonwealth Electoral Boundaries for the November 2026 release.

  • Commonwealth Electoral Boundaries:
    • ACT, SA and TAS have an update. These new boundaries were gazetted on 8 October 2026 and will come into effect at the next federal election.

  • State Electoral Boundaries:
    • QLD has an update to the Legislative Assembly boundaries. These new boundaries were gazetted on 29 June 2026.

Electoral Boundaries Future Updates

  • ACT Legislative Assembly (State Electoral boundaries) are currently being redistributed for the ACT Legislative Assembly election. When these boundaries have been determined we will provide an update.

  • QLD Commonwealth Electoral Boundaries are currently in the process of being redistributed. When these boundaries have been determined we will update them in the product.

  • TAS House of Assembly boundaries (State Electoral Boundaries) generally align with Commonwealth Electoral Boundaries. Following the gazettal of new Commonwealth Electoral Boundaries on 8 October 2026, the House of Assembly boundaries are also under review by TAS, but have not yet been gazetted.

  • TAS Legislative Councils (State Electoral Boundaries) are currently being redistributed. These boundaries are updated every 9-10 years and were last updated in 2017. When the boundaries are gazetted we will update the product.

ABS ASGS 2026 Indigenous Structure

For the November 2026 release cycle, we’re pleased to introduce the Geoscape ABS ASGS 2026 Indigenous Structure product.

The release aligns with the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ new ASGS Edition 4 (July 2026 to June 2031), which has been designed to support the publication and analysis of the 2026 Census data and other official statistics over the next five years. ASGS Edition 4 reflects changes in Australia’s population, economy and infrastructure, ensuring statistical boundaries remain relevant and fit for purpose.

The product will include the ABS ASGS 2026 Indigenous Structure, encompassing:

  • Indigenous Locations (ILOC)

  • Indigenous Areas (IARE)

  • Indigenous Regions (IREG)

Data Model

We are looking to develop the data model in alignment with the ABS ASGS 2026 Main Structure & GCCSA product. The data model has not yet been finalised.

File Structure

The ABS ASGS 2026 Indigenous Structure data will follow updated file structure and versioning.

The version numbering format: MAJOR-MINOR-EXTRACT (e.g. 002-000-001). This approach provides a clear and consistent structure, making it easy for users to identify product versions and understand update levels. This improves transparency, reduces ambiguity, and supports more efficient integration and usage of our data products.

The folder structure of the product packages will not contain a contents.txt file nor any internal folders. The .ZIP file packages will only contain data files. We have applied this change to simplify accessing the data.

Available Formats

The ABS ASGS 2026 Indigenous Structure data will be available in:

  • File Geodatabase (GDB)

  • GeoJSON

  • ESRI Shapefile (SHP)

  • MapInfo TAB (TAB)

  • Geopackage (GPKG)

QLD Horizontal and Vertical Strata

The latest QLD cadastre supply included updates to strata_type, with approximately 60,000 strata parcels that previously had a null strata_type now classified as either Horizontal or Vertical.

For 99.2% of these parcels, the update relates to common property (lot = ‘CP’). In these cases, non-common property parcels at the same site already had a strata_type, and the common property has now been assigned the corresponding classification. The remaining 0.8% represent enhancements to strata_type for non-common property parcels, as determined by QLD.

Overall, these changes represent a valid improvement to the population of strata_type values in QLD and have been verified with the QLD Government.

Retirement of addresses in G-NAF

As part of the process of continual improvement of G-NAF, some 19,000 lot numbered addresses in Queensland have been identified as invalid from an addressing perspective and have been retired in the November 2026 release of G-NAF.

As in previous updates, these retired addresses will remain in G-NAF with a confidence of -1.
