Overview¶
Geoscape’s ABS ASGS 2026 Main Structure product provides a national representation of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Edition 4 Main Structure, supporting customers with access to the latest statistical geography ahead of future Census outputs and other ABS statistical releases.
The ABS ASGS 2026 Main Structure product has been designed to provide a consistent, nationally aligned dataset that integrates seamlessly with existing geospatial workflows and analytical processes.
Geoscape welcomes your feedback on our products. We also publish regular product development updates on our website ( www.geoscape.com.au ).

Product Details¶
The product is based on the ABS ASGS Edition 4 Main Structure and reflects the 2026 statistical geography released by the ABS.
Coverage is provided for the whole of Australia, including:

Greater Capital City Statistical Areas (GCCSA)
Statistical Areas Level 4 (SA4)
Statistical Areas Level 3 (SA3)
Statistical Areas Level 2 (SA2)
Statistical Areas Level 1 (SA1)
Mesh Blocks
The product is supplied as a complete national dataset across all supported structures.
Standard Geoscape Formats
The product is available in Geoscape’s standard delivery formats and follows established packaging and versioning conventions, enabling consistent use alongside other Geoscape products.
Nationally Consistent Boundaries
All structures are supplied as nationally consistent datasets derived from the ABS ASGS Edition 4 Main Structure release, providing a common statistical geography framework across Australia.
Transition to ASGS 2026
The introduction of ASGS 2026 represents a new statistical geography framework. Customers integrating this dataset with existing systems and analyses should ensure they are using compatible ASGS vintages across related datasets.
Some Geoscape products may continue to reference earlier ASGS versions during transition periods as statistical releases and dependent products move to ASGS 2026.
Product Scope
The ABS ASGS 2026 Main Structure product currently focuses on the core ASGS Main Structure and associated national and state-level geographies.
Additional ASGS structures will be released as separate products as future ABS datasets become available.
